The Championships bring together the country’s most promising young footballers from across every state and territory, with more than 500 players set to take part in pre-tournament testing on Saturday before competition officially kicks off on Sunday. Running through to Friday, the tournament provides a key early look at the next generation of Australian football talent, with the added significance of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games on the horizon and the Olyroos guaranteed qualification as host nation. This year’s event will also feature a Charles Perkins XI, led by former Socceroo David Williams, representing Football Australia’s national First Nations development program, while an invited team from Japan will provide an international benchmark and exposure to different playing styles. Against this national backdrop, the Wanderers Academy continues to stand out, with 25 players selected across NSW Sky, NSW Navy and NSW Regional squads — a strong reflection of the club’s development pathway and depth of talent across age groups. Their selection highlights the continued strength of the Academy system in producing players ready to compete at the highest youth representative level in the country. As the Championships get underway, the Wanderers contingent will be aiming to make their mark on a national stage – showcasing the next wave of talent coming through the red and black.
