The Western Sydney Wanderers Academy Under 16s are set to take on some of the world’s leading youth football programs, confirming their participation in the 2026 Liam Brady Cup, hosted by the Arsenal Academy from 15–17 May 2026.

Held in London, the tournament brings together an elite field of international academy sides, offering a high-performance environment designed to challenge and develop the next generation of professional footballers.

For the Wanderers, it represents another significant step in exposing Academy players to elite European competition and standards.

The Wanderers will compete alongside some of the most respected academies in global football, including Arsenal F.C., Club Atlético Talleres, Feyenoord Rotterdam, Independiente del Valle, Nottingham Forest F.C., Panathinaikos F.C., and AC Sparta Prague, providing a truly international test across three days of competition.

The Liam Brady Cup will feature an 8-team format, beginning with a group stage where teams are split into two groups of four. Each side will play one another once, with standard points allocation applied (3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss). If teams are tied on points, final group positions will be determined by goal difference, goals scored, and then head-to-head results.

All teams will progress into the knockout phase, ensuring every match carries significance across both championship and placement pathways. Quarter-final matchups will be determined by group finishing positions, with teams crossing over between groups (1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd).

From there, sides will progress through to semi-finals or placement matches to determine final rankings from 1st to 8th.

If knockout or placement matches are level at full-time, the result will be decided by penalties (best of five), with no extra time played.

For the Wanderers Academy, the tournament presents a valuable opportunity to measure themselves against leading international academies in a condensed, high-intensity environment, mirroring the demands of elite youth football in Europe.

The club’s participation reflects its continued commitment to developing players through meaningful international experiences, with the Liam Brady Cup providing both a benchmark and a platform for future progression.
